It is vital to maintain current levels of funding for nonprofits in the 2011 Loudoun County budget.
If the Board of Supervisors reduce funds provided to nonprofits in the Regional Organizations portion of the budget, the impact will be devastating:
- Several local nonprofits will be forced to discontinue services or programs
- Families in need of services will turn to the already overwhelmed government programs offered by the county
- Loudoun County residents in need will go without necessary services
Other human-service providers beyond Loudoun’s nonprofits are facing major cuts during this year’s budget cycle. As county programs are reduced or eliminated, more and more families will turn to local nonprofits for assistance. If the Regional Organizations budget has also been reduced or eliminated those families have nowhere to go and no one to provide them services.
What’s worse is the recession has escalated the challenges faced by Loudoun families and the nonprofits who serve them. We are seeing devastating funding cuts while the number of families in need is growing dramatically.
Who will be hurt if Loudoun County reduces funding for local nonprofits?
- The family struggling financially and emotionally to raise their autistic child
- The elderly couple on a fixed income who must decide between buying groceries or purchasing their prescription medicine
- The family who lost their home to foreclosure and is now seeking shelter on a cold winter night
- The military veteran recently returned to Loudoun who is struggling to regain independence after loss of a leg and brain injury
- The first-time mother unable to afford childcare who needs supportive services to prevent child abuse and neglect
- The hardworking family who lost all health insurance when both parents were laid off from their jobs
...and countless others who receive relief and assistance from Loudoun County nonprofits everyday.
